About the owner

The concentration camp memorial Laura is an institution of the District Saalfeld-Rudolstadt. In a reorganization of local government in 1994 the memorial is handed over to the new district of Saalfeld-Rudolstadt. In 2010 the district council agreed to acquire the entire premises that had been behind barbed wire. That decision allowed the Thuringian Ministry of Education, Culture and Science to grant funds for the complete restructuring and refurbishing of the memorial. Additional buildings were included into the new exhibition. The former camp kitchen now houses the visitor information. Finally, in 2012, the district started operating the site with own personnel.
