Inmates' path to quarry
Most inmates had to work in the Oertelsbruch quarry either above- or underground. Everyday they had to descend into the quarry and walk back up after their shift. The path was a former reel line that had been used to move slate from the quarry uphill. Survivors described the path as very steep and lined by barbed wire. Several steps meant an additional hardship for the exhausted men in their poor footwear. It happened that men collapsed on this path. Today the path is overgrown by grass but still visible.
